23rd JAN WEF 2018 at ZRH

Every January a lot of Head of states and Business leaders heading to the famous World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland). That alone is a reason for planes potter to travel to Zurich but as a bonus the local plane spotter community offers some rare apron tours during this week. A unique opportunity to get some very good pictures of Government and Businnes jets as well as the scheduled traffic at ZRH.
In November 2017 I found a very good fare on LX for HAJ-ZRH HAJ for the opening day so booked to it immediately ;-)

HAJ – ZRH
Airline: Swiss International Airlines
Aircraft: Bombardier CS100
Registration: HB-JBB
Flying Time: 0:53

The day started early at 5 o’clock when a taxi with my buddy Matthias picked me up in order to bring us on time to HAJ Airport. A few days earlier I was informed that two other Hannover based plane spotter will be on this day in ZRH so I send one of them a message that we are on the way.
Prior boarding we grab a coffee

Than a new type of aircraft was ready for boarding, here we go…

Some impressions during the flight
What a beautiful looking plane, very comfortable and enjoyable plane to fly on. The service of Swiss was very good. We got a tasty croissant and coffee as well as their famous chocolate.

We landed on time and taxied to our gate. Our fellow plane Spotter Christian and Florian picked us up and we all together went to the observation deck immediately. Weather was not good but better than fog or heavy snow.

The following pictures were made at the observation desk.
During this week the famous Buchair Shop offers several apron Tours each day which can be easily booked online. These tours are running for about two hours and I highly recommend them. For this day we booked 2 apron tours one at 10.30lt and one at 18.00lt for some night shots.

After this great first tour we get back to the observation deck for some additional plane spotting
The observation deck offers great opportunities for some night pictures as well
At 18.00lt our second apron Tour began so we grab our tripod and went to the meeting point some some night shots
After this great opportunity we were in a hurry in order to get through security and be on time for our boarding back to HAJ

Conclusion: WEF is definitely worth it and Buchair offers an opportunity which is unique in the modern time. Just think about the idea JFK Airport would offer apron tours during UN week in September.

Then we can be thankful that Buchair and ZRH Airport gave us such an opportunity for our hobby.
